Spine pain remains one of the most common long-term health issues. According to available data, up to 73.6% of adults experience back pain at least once a year, with the lumbar spine being the most frequently affected area (60.1%). At my neurological clinic, I offer comprehensive, modern care for patients suffering from acute and chronic back pain, radicular (nerve root) syndromes, and herniated discs. Specialized Pre-Operative Diagnostics for Neuro- and Spondylo- Surgery

A significant number of patients must undergo neurosurgical or spondylosurgical operations due to spine pain. Therefore, the Vertebrogenic Centre offers specialized pre-operative diagnostics for patients who have been recommended for, or have planned, a neurosurgical or spondylosurgical consultation, as well as those with an already scheduled surgery date for the cervical (neck) or lumbar (low back) spine.Many patients arrive at their surgeon's office with incomplete or outdated documentation, lacking a precise neurological evaluation or current neuroelectrophysiology. A pre-operative neurological examination supplemented by EMG (Electromyography) and MEP (Motor Evoked Potentials) allows us to precisely determine the level and severity of the impairment, differentiate radiculopathy from other causes of symptoms, and provide the operating surgeon with complete data for a safe and effective decision on the next steps.Core Pillars of Spine Care and the Vertebrogenic Concept:


NEUROLOGICAL EXAMINATION 

A comprehensive assessment of the nervous system, radicular (nerve root) syndromes, functional blockages, and other related spinal conditions. 


NEUROELECTROPHYSIOLOGICAL DIAGNOSTICS 

  • EMG (electromyography/ nerve conduction studies) 
  • MEP (motor evoked potentials) 
  • An advanced evaluation of nerves, nerve roots, and muscles, alongside an assessment of potential motor pathway impairment—such as spinal cord compression caused by a herniated disc or spinal canal stenosis (narrowing). This workup is essential not only for differential diagnostics (distinguishing neuropathies from nerve root damage) but also prior to scheduled surgical procedures on the cervical and lumbar spine (and, in specific cases, following surgery).


Pre-Operative Packages at the Vertebrogenic Centre

For patients with a scheduled neurosurgical or spondylosurgical consultation, or a planned surgery on the cervical or lumbar spine, I offer three tiers of pre-operative diagnostics. These packages combine a clinical neurological examination and neuroelectrophysiology (EMG and MEP) based on whether the patient has already undergone a neurological evaluation or requires a complete diagnostic workup from scratch.These packages ensure that the operating surgeon (neurosugeron or spine surgeon) receives complete, current, and precise data essential for safe and effective decision-making. Neuroelectrodiagnostics are a vital component in assessing the indication for surgery and its timing, evaluating the current functional state of peripheral nerves, nerve roots, and the spinal cord before the procedure, and significantly contributing to determining the prognosis of the spinal condition.

Please note that the clinical neurological examination and the electrophysiological tests (EMG and MEP) do not take place on the same day. Due to clinic capacity and technical requirements, it is necessary to complete these evaluations during two separate appointments.Booking is managed exclusively via e-mail, where we will arrange the earliest available dates for both parts of your workup:

How the visit works: 

  • Booking – by phone or online via Reservio. 
  • Diagnostics – neurological examination, determining further steps, including consideration of EMG/MEP indication and treatment planning. 
  • Treatment plan – selection of the most suitable therapy or combination of methods. 
  • Follow-up – evaluation of treatment effect and adjustment of therapy.


Acute neurological examination – 60 minutes 

  • Choose this option if you have sudden onset spine or limb pain, a new short-term problem, no previous documentation, or need quick assessment and treatment. 
  • Suitable for acute blockages, sudden neck or back pain, radiating limb pain, tingling or weakness.
  • Recommended for patients without previous neurological history.

Comprehensive neurological examination – 60 minutes 

  • Intended for patients with long-term or recurrent symptoms, those who have been examined by other specialists or need a second opinion, and those who have medical documentation available (reports, EMG/SSEP/MEP results, X-ray/CT/MRI findings, imaging on USB, CD or via e-PACS). 
  • This examination allows detailed analysis and precise identification of the cause of symptoms.

How to provide imaging and documentation: 

  • Please bring reports from previous physicians, examination results, and imaging on USB, CD or via e-PACS. 
  • If you have 5 or more documents, please send them in PDF format by email. 
  • In case of extensive documentation, a fee of 700 CZK per each started 30 minutes may be charged for review and preparation of a detailed medical report.
