Bleeding disorders or active bleeding
Photosensitivity (e.g. after certain medications such as tetracyclines, retinoids)
Epilepsy — treatment of the head region
Suspicious pigmented lesions (moles, melanocytic lesions)
Thyroid gland area
Patients with pacemakers or other implanted stimulators

1. Does the LLLT laser treatment hurt?
Not at all. The treatment is entirely non-invasive and painless. This is not a surgical or hair-removal laser that burns or cuts tissue. You will not feel any burning, stinging, or pain during the therapy. Most patients feel absolutely nothing, while some describe a pleasant, mild local warmth caused by increased blood circulation in the treated area.
2. How exactly does the LLLT laser help with treatment?
The laser does not just mask the pain; it treats the root cause directly at the cellular level. The light energy penetrates deep into the tissues, where it stimulates the mitochondria (the powerhouses of the cells). This leads to:
- Faster regeneration of the compressed nerve and the restoration of its protective sheath.
- A significant reduction in swelling of the tendons in the carpal tunnel, which frees up space for the nerve.
- Stopping micro-inflammation and rapidly clearing away substances that cause pain.
3. How soon will I feel an improvement?
This is individual, but relief from the worst pain and nightly finger tingling often comes very quickly – after just 2 to 4 sessions. However, to achieve a lasting effect and deep healing of the nerve, it is necessary to complete the entire recommended series. Structural changes and nerve restoration will appear on an MRI or EMG examination with a delay of about 12 weeks.
4. How many sessions will I need and how often?
To achieve maximum and long-term therapeutic results, a series of 5 to 10 sessions is standardly recommended. The ideal frequency is 2 to 3 times a week. Depending on the diagnosis, a single application takes about 10 to 20 minutes, and you can immediately return to your normal daily activities, driving, or work right after.
5. Are there any contraindications where the laser cannot be used?
The LLLT laser is an extremely safe method, but there are a few situations where it cannot be applied:
- Directly over an area with a diagnosed oncological disease.
- Directly over the thyroid gland area (if treating the cervical spine).
- Directly over tattoos (dark pigment absorbs too much energy).
- Pregnancy is not a strict contraindication for treating the hand (carpal tunnel), but the laser must not be applied to the abdomen or lower belly area.
6. Do I need to follow any special routine after the treatment?
There are no strict restrictions; the therapy will not disrupt your daily life in any way. However, immediately after the application (for about 2–3 hours), it is recommended not to physically strain the treated hand or back (e.g., do not lift heavy loads, do not work out at the gym, or avoid typing on a keyboard for long hours). Cellular metabolism is working at full speed during this time, and the tissue needs rest to regenerate.
7. Is the treatment safe for the eyes? Can the laser damage my eyesight?
The laser light used in LLLT is very intense, and looking directly into the beam could damage the retina. Therefore, it is an absolute necessity to wear special protective glasses, which you will receive from me or the nurse before the treatment. Once you have the glasses on, the procedure is 100% safe for your vision.
8. Can I combine LLLT laser therapy with other treatments (medication, injections, physiotherapy)?
Yes, LLLT works wonderfully as part of comprehensive care.
- Physiotherapy and braces: Combining laser therapy with nightly splinting or targeted exercises significantly multiplies its effectiveness.
- Medications and supplements: Taking B-complex vitamins or nucleotides (uridine, cytidine) will further accelerate nerve regeneration after the laser treatment.
- Injections / Nerve blocks: If you have recently received a corticosteroid injection in your wrist, please inform me in advance. The laser can still be applied, but it is best to maintain a short time interval after the injection.
9. How long will the effect of the treatment last? Will the tingling return?
For mild to moderate forms of carpal tunnel syndrome, the effect is usually long-term (many months to years). This is because the laser actually heals the tissue rather than just suppressing the symptoms. However, the permanence of the result depends on whether you eliminate the triggering cause. If you return to full-time work at an improperly set-up computer or heavy manual labor without ergonomic aids after successful treatment, the overload may reappear over time.
Best effect for most types of pain
For many patients, the ideal approach is a combination of both methods in a single visit: the scanner relaxes the entire area, while the point probe targets the most painful spots.
