BASIC COMPREHENSIVE EXAMINATION PROGRAM
We offer patients a Basic Comprehensive Examination Program, which includes a clinical examination by a physician, an electrophysiological diagnostic test (EMG, EEG, or BAEP), and optionally blood tests (in cooperation with Spadia Lab Brno, s.r.o.). All services are provided conveniently in one location at the Dům zdraví Marty Hartlové. A referral from another doctor is not required, but it is recommended to bring any previous test results the patient has undergone. This program is not covered by public health insurance.
How does it work
The patient schedules a clinical examination with the physician and is also given an appointment for EMG, EEG, or BAEP. Appointments can be made by phone at +420 545 424 747 (landline) or by email at neurologie@neurologiemistrikova.cz.
For operational reasons, EMG, EEG, or BAEP examinations usually take place on a different day than the clinical examination. If the patient wishes to undergo optional blood tests, they can visit the Spadia Lab collection center located on the ground floor of the Dům zdraví Marty Hartlové with a requisition form provided by us. The patient will receive complete results, including interpretation and recommendations, in the final medical report during the follow‑up consultation with the physician.
Pricing for the Basic Screening Examination Program (self‑pay patients)
Prices for individual programs are listed below. The patient pays for the clinical examination, the electrophysiological test (EEG, EMG, BAEP), and the final summary medical report directly at our neurology clinic. The summary medical report can be sent to the patient via email or to their data mailbox.

Polyneuropathy/peripheral neuropathy
is a condition affecting the peripheral nerves, most commonly in the lower limbs, although involvement of the upper limbs is not unusual. Patients may experience sensory disturbances, motor impairment, and autonomic dysfunction. Symptoms are often described as numbness (such as a feeling of swollen soles), burning pain, weakness, tingling, or pins‑and‑needles sensations in the lower limbs, and sometimes in the upper limbs as well. In cases of lower‑limb polyneuropathy, patients may also notice difficulty walking — a sensation of "walking on moss," an unsteady "drunken‑like" gait, or frequent tripping.
The causes of polyneuropathy vary. It most commonly occurs in patients with diabetes mellitus, thyroid disorders, vitamin deficiencies (especially B‑vitamins), after chemotherapy, or due to excessive long‑term alcohol consumption. In some patients, it may have autoimmune origins. Among people over the age of 60, it affects up to 20% of the population. Treatment depends on the underlying cause.

Dementia
is a neurodegenerative disease with a steadily increasing incidence. In 2015, there were approximately 156,000 diagnosed patients with dementia in the Czech Republic. One of the most common types is Alzheimer's disease, currently affecting around 50,000 people in the Czech Republic. Symptoms of dementia include memory loss, communication difficulties, and behavioral changes (confusion, sleep disturbances, visual hallucinations, etc.). Over time, the condition leads to a loss of independence and the need for 24‑hour care.
The second most common type is Dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB), accounting for an estimated 10–20% of dementia cases. It typically presents not only with fluctuating cognitive impairment but also hallucinations (visual, auditory, tactile), parkinsonian symptoms (rigidity, overall slowness), REM sleep disturbances, and more.
Diagnosis of dementia includes a clinical neurological examination, neuropsychological testing, imaging studies, and other supportive tests (including blood tests). Collaboration with a psychiatrist is often beneficial. Early diagnosis enables earlier treatment which, although not curative, may help alleviate cognitive symptoms in some cases.

Tinnitus
is a condition in which a patient hears sounds in the ear (ringing, buzzing, or tones of various pitches) that are not actually present. The causes of tinnitus may include long‑term exposure to loud noise, age‑related degeneration of auditory cells, middle‑ear infections, iron deficiency, stress, anxiety, or sudden changes in pressure.
Tinnitus can also be a symptom of another underlying condition, such as multiple sclerosis, high blood pressure, Ménière's disease, a cerebellopontine angle tumor (vestibular schwannoma), or a neurovascular conflict (a blood vessel located close to the auditory nerve).

Restless legs syndrome
Restless Legs Syndrome is a neurological disorder characterized by an irresistible and uncontrollable urge to move the legs in order to relieve unpleasant sensations such as tingling, itching, or burning. Symptoms typically occur at rest, in the evening, or at night, and their intensity increases during inactivity. The condition can significantly impair sleep quality and overall quality of life.
There are various possible causes of this disorder, including kidney failure, diabetes mellitus, rheumatoid arthritis, dopamine deficiency, pregnancy, iron deficiency, and genetic factors. It is also frequently seen in patients with peripheral neuropathy of the lower limbs. Approximately 50% of patients have a positive family history, suggesting a possible genetic predisposition. Treatment depends on the underlying cause of the symptoms.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (Median Nerve Mononeuropathy)
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is the most common entrapment neuropathy and the most frequent mononeuropathy, meaning a disorder affecting a single peripheral nerve. It occurs more often in women, particularly between the ages of 45 and 55. Each year, approximately 180 to 346 cases per 100,000 inhabitants are diagnosed.
Typical symptoms include tingling, and in later stages of median nerve compression, numbness in the thumb, index finger, middle finger, and part of the ring finger. Symptoms often worsen at night (patients may wake up and need to shake their hand or let it hang down) or during hand use. Pain may radiate into the palm and even up the forearm. Patients may experience difficulty gripping or holding objects and may notice impaired fine motor skills (e.g., buttoning a shirt, threading a needle).
Risk factors include pregnancy (due to swelling and nerve compression), overweight, diabetes mellitus, work with vibrating tools, prolonged computer use, and repetitive or excessive strain on the wrist. Certain medical conditions—such as Raynaud's disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis (hATTR)—also increase the risk of developing carpal tunnel syndrome.
Electromyography (EMG) is an auxiliary diagnostic method used to assess the function of the median nerve and determine the severity of conduction impairment. Treatment depends on the underlying cause and the degree of nerve damage. In moderate to severe cases, surgical treatment (release of the nerve at the wrist) is recommended.
